How to Naturally get rid of Back & Shoulder Acne

This summer, the unthinkable happened: I got rid of my back & shoulder acne! Okay, okay, there may still be a little bit of acne here and there but nothing compared to what it used to be. I am going to share with you my secret tricks on how I got rid of my back & shoulder acne this summer. I don’t think a long introduction is going to add something so let’s just start reading.
Okay but wait a second…

So what is Acne?

You probably suffer from back and/or shoulder acne and are looking for a way to get rid of it. Well, then I have good news for you, that’s exactly what this blog post is going to be about. Let’s now take a look at what Acne is, even though I’m sure you already know what it is.
According to Kara Shah, a dermatologist, back acne is a result of dead skin cells and oil collecting in the pores in the skin. If you know this, you could assume that by washing your body every morning and night you will eventually get rid of the acne. Sadly, this is not the reality for most people. We need to put in a little more effort to get rid of the acne.

And what are the causes?

Half of the people suffering from acne also suffer from back & shoulder acne. You are definitely not alone!
As was stated in the paragraph before, acne is a result of oil collecting in the pores. One of the causes of acne is excess oil production or excess use of oily products. Another cause of acne is bacteria, it’s therefore very important to wash your body enough and with good soap. (Of course only get rid of the bad bacteria, there are good ones 🙂 )
Hormonal change is also a major cause that triggers acne. A lot of young people suffer from acne because of this. Other factors to keep in mind are your diet, medication and stress.

Let’s talk about treatments

I am going to assume that you want to get rid of the acne, otherwise you wouldn’t have clicked on this article. However, I do believe that we should normalize having acne and we shouldn’t be disgusted by it. It’s not a sign of not taking care of your body in most cases. Don’t let having acne on your body or face lower your self esteem. Be proud of it for the time it’s there.
But… that time is over now! At least I hope so. I am going to share with you how I healed my back and shoulder acne over 1 summer. And what makes this even better is that it’s all natural. Last summer I started using all natural products for my face and body and this completely changed my body. I hope this treatment will help you the way it did for me.
Enough talking, here is a list with things I did/used that helped me get rid of my acne. Keep in mind that this is a personal experience. Everyone’s body is unique and this may not work for you. But hey! It’s worth a shot, right?

1.Sun:

I got rid of my back and shoulder acne over the summer while I was on vacation to the beach. I think my back getting sunlight has helped a little bit with getting rid of those little pimples.
I don’t think that sunlight alone is going to completely change the game. However, I do believe that getting a Healthy amount of sunlight is always good. With capital H, because laying in the sun for 5 hours at 35 C on the beach is too much.

2.Sunscreen:

I am not saying that you should use sunscreen. But if you are going to use it, use a good one. Don’t use a basic sunscreen you can buy everywhere that’s full of toxic ingredients and nanotechnology. Some may have a bigger problem with all those toxics in the sunscreen than others.
For me it’s very important to not only pay attention to what you put into your body but also what you put on it.
This summer I switched to a natural sunscreen. Yes, it’s harder to smear out. But, once it’s on the skin it feels so much better and healthier. (this could be a placebo though…)
I truly believe that switching to a natural sunscreen without nanotechnology helped me get rid of the acne on my back, shoulders and even face.

3.Salt water:

I know, I know! Everyone tells you salt water is bad for your hair. There could definitely be a truth in this, especially if you swim in the sea every day of the year. However, I noticed my hair getting really soft from the salt water. I will write a blog post about this soon.
Back to back acne! I think swimming in salt water now and then can be really refreshing for your body. Last summer I swam a lot in the Dutch sea and I noticed my back acne got significantly less in just two weeks. The 1 á 2 months that followed my back & shoulder acne almost completely disappeared. There is still a little bit there but not to the point where it bothers me.

3.Vitamin E :

After you have sunbathed for a little bit in the sun, it’s important to give your skin some extra love. You can use an after sun, however you’ll find that there are lot’s of bad ingredients in these. Of course, you can try and search for a natural & organic after sun. But you can also use a body lotion/creme with vitamin E in it. Vitamin E heals and calms the skin after the sun has heated your skin.
I used a Vitamin E body lotion on my skin, especially on my face and back to calm my body down and my acne got significantly less. The acne in my face also completely disappeared. It feeled as soft as a baby. My face was literally as bright as the sun, lol. So yeah, using a vitamin E body lotion helped me get rid of the acne.

5.Shower:

Of course I showered after I swam in the salt water and had sweat everywhere. I showered in those 2 weeks way more than I do normally in 1 month. I showered 1 á 2 times a day. This is of course not healthy to do for a long period of time, but I think letting the salt water in my body for a little bit and then flushing the salt water from your body was very good for my skin. Of course I don’t have any scientific study to back this up, but this is what worked for me.

6.Loose-fitting clothing :

During the summer I wore lots of loose fitting clothing and I believe this also helped me get rid of the acne.
My skin could finally breathe, no plastic or mask in the way. Pure air!
On a microscopic level, polyester doesn’t really look good for the skin. Whereas, cotton and linen look way better. Therefore, buying more breathable fabrics like cotton and linen can help your skin to breath more and prevent oil from clogging into your pores.
Sometimes wearing clothes can start to irritate, I have this mostly in the summer. (In the winter I am wearing sweaters with scarfs!) It can be really liberating to get rid of your clothes. (or some, lol!) I think deep down you know that your body doesn’t want all those layers of clothing in the summer. The sweat stays on your skin and pimples are waiting to show themselves. So, wear breathable and loose-fitting clothing from now on

7.Eat healthy:

This last one is very simple, but so super important! I love a good apple or pear, especially in the summer, they refresh your whole body. Of course balance is important and things shouldn’t be done in an obsessive way.
You should do the things your heart desires and I think your heart desires to keep your heart healthy. Sounds logical right?
So we need to take care of ourselves and give our bodies love so that we can be the best versions of ourselves. Eat your fruits and veggies and get rid of those acne black-/whiteheads and pimples.

So that’s it!

I really hope this article has helped you in a way. I didn’t expect my acne to go away anytime soon this summer. And yet here I am in December with almost no back and shoulder acne sings this summer. The only thing that I changed this summer were these 7 things. I think not one thing changed the game for me, but rather a combination of these things. I wish you the best!
